"Simon Cowell ruined Christmas". Not my words, but those of inaugural X Factor winner Steve Brookstein. He's got a point. For a good chunk of the 2000s, the nefarious influence of Cowell's brainchild has poisoned the once pure well of musical excellence. However, the tide is finally turning...

The X Factor bosses really weren't joking when they said they were changing things up this year, were they? Not only have we seen the reintroduction of THE ROOM (we like to say that in a really over the top ominous voice, try it) but bootcamp's gone and got a revamp too.
Yep, in a teaser released for the bootcamp episodes (which start on Saturday, AGH HOORAY YIPPEE etc.) a new 'musical chair' system is revealed.
Sadly this doesn't seem to involve an actual game of musical chairs, in which anyone left standing when the music stops is told to get out and never darken the X Factor door again.
What is DOES involve is the judges - who have now been informed of their categories - choosing who they want to take to Judges' Houses by telling them to park their bums on a row of six seats set out on the stage.

The X Factor hopeful Joseph Whelan has said he is flying the flag for all rockers by taking part in the show.
Do you know what? You can take everything Demi Lovato have or can break everything she is like she's made of glass and/or paper, but she'll *always* be rising from the ground like a skyscraper. Usually with a duetting partner. And after she's recently teamed up with Cher Lloyd and her X Factor USA pals Fifth Harmony, she's now been joined on stage by Glee star Darren Criss. Ooh.
Yup - we all know Demz is appearing in the next season of Glee - and she treated everyone at Toronto's We Day to a totes emosh performance of Skyscraper with her new co-star.
The pair gave us a taste of what's to come on the show, with Darren tinkling the ivories and being generally quite fit and The Kenyan Boys Choir getting in on the action, too. Oh GAHD, someone pass the tissues.
Check out Demi and Darren's duet below.
It's the ultimate praise: the Barlow dubbing you captivating and stunning! Lucky Crissie reveals how it felt to hear the Take That star utter those words.

X Factor winner James Arthur invites Newsbeat behind the scenes of his debut music video.
Well, well, well. It's not even ruddy Boot Camp time for this season's X Factor and there's *already* some amazing celeb based goss to go mental over - that usual only happens once the live shows kick off and everything turns a bit Hunger Games.
But this year, the gossip's starting early because contestant Lydia Lucy's revealed that she used to date none other than Nathan bloody Sykes off of The Wanted - and they even went to *prom* together. SORRY WHAT.
Image: Twitter
That's right, it looks like Lydia's actually gone and lived every girl's dream because her and Nathykins used to get romantic at school together and are probably now contenders for our favourite prom king and queen ever - competing against Cady Heron and Aaron Samuels and Troy Bolton and Garbriella Montez, obviously.
