X Factor winners release debut album and enjoy immediate chart success: the Little Mix backstory is, indeed, pretty dull. But the reason they've become the affectionately regarded darlings of pop since then is that there's something a bit skew-whiff about the quartet. Aside from their goofy and cartoonish appearance, their music relishes all that is chintzy and uncool. The BeyoncĂ© boot-camp stomp of the title track here is somewhat deceiving as the rest of the album recalls 'N Sync in their heyday – break-up ballad Nothing But You evokes white suits and wind machines, while Boy is a revamped rendition of 2001's Gone. For nostalgic kids of the 90s who long for pop before it became complex, before Marina Abramovic and David Lynch became default spirit guides, Salute is like a dip in a pool of Skittles: tacky, sugary and brilliantly indulgent.

An X Factor spokesperson has denied reports that Tamera Foster is a 'nightmare' to work with.

Retailer to run festive campaign before John Lewis and Asda, who will screen their ads during The X Factor
Tesco is looking to steal a march on supermarket rivals Asda and Sainsbury's by launching its Christmas TV campaign on Friday night during ITV's Coronation Street.
The Tesco ad will be themed around the strapline "There's nothing better than Christmas" and will not be celebrity-focused. Previous Tesco Christmas ads have featured celebrities such as the Spice Girls.
Unlike John Lewis and Asda, Tesco has chosen not to launch its Christmas campaign during Saturday's X Factor, which in recent times has been the preferred programme during which to launch major commercials.
Instead, viewers will be able to see the Tesco ad for the first time either during Friday's Coronation Street and during Sunday's Downton Abbey on ITV.
"Tesco is trying to beat its rivals by launching before them," said one industry source.
Retailers' Christmas campaigns have become major events, as they each look to outsell rivals over the crucial festive period.
This year Marks & Spencer had a cinematic screening to launch its Christmas campaign, which debuted earlier this week and features Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Helena Bonham Carter and model David Gandy.
Tesco, whose campaign has been created by ad agency Wieden + Kennedy, will go head-to-head with Morrisons, which is also launching its Ant and Dec fronted Christmas campaign on Friday.
On Saturday, John Lewis, which is taking over a whole ad break during The X Factor to premiere its latest Christmas ad as it looks to offer something different from its rivals, will go up against Asda.
Sainsbury's, as in previous years, will launch its Christmas ad campaign later in November.

Oh crikey, Sam Callahan’s having a pretty rough ride on the X Factor at the moment isn’t he? It seems like he can’t do anything to please Gary Barlow and the rest of the judges (especially when he wears a slightly dodgy sleeveless hoodie), and now he’s landed himself in even more trouble with the bigger bosses.
Sam has found himself in the bad books of the X Factor big wigs this week, after getting a serious telling off for selling his own merchandise in an online shop. CHEEKY.
Selling personal merch goes against rules for contestants currently on the X Factor, but Sam has recently been promoting his own online shop where Callafans can bag themselves a fetching t-shirt, a handy keyring, a marvy mug or even a badass baseball jacket with Sam’s face plastered across them.
WE’LL TAKE THE LOT.
Wearing makeup is a bit of a faff sometimes, isn’t it? First of all you have to go through the palarva of making sure you choose the right foundation for your skin, next you need a concealer to hide all the bits you’re not loving, not to mention the right eyeshadow colour, a pretty shade of lippie, and a mascara that doesn’t leave you looking like an emotional panda.
One of the most important bits is blusher, designed to give you a cute pop of colour after piling on all the skin coloured slap. But should you go pink, red, coral orange? Cream, powder, liquid? Sparkly, matte, glowy? AGH.
We’ve decided to try and eliminate a bit of the fuss by road testing some of the best blush offerings from the high street. We’ve tested a little range of the prettiest pinks to give you that pinched flush, so why not scroll down and see what made us blush, and what made us rush (to the makeup wipes, obv).
We've teamed up with TalkTalk, proud sponsors of The X Factor, to give one lucky reader the chance to win four money-can't-buy soundcheck tickets ahead of the Quarter-Final Live Show on 30th November! You've been watching all the acts battle...

Demi Lovato is just a little bit busy nowadays. She's got her X Factor USA judging gig going on, the small matter of her incredible music career and ALSO that inspirational book she's released. PHEW.
But it looks like Demz fancies putting her finger in yet *another* pie because she's revealed that she's been feeling a bit broody as of late - and apparently we have her American upbringings to thank for it.
Chatting to Latina magazine, Demi admitted that she can't help but start thinking about popping out some kids even though she's at the ripe old age of 21 YEARS OLD. We have socks older than that, Demz.
She told the mag: "I’m a Texas girl, so my instinct is to have babies early. In my heart I’m like, ‘Okay, it’s time to have babies!’
"But it’s not. I have so much life ahead of me that I actually have to slow my roll. We’ll see where my life is in 5 years, but I definitely see myself as a mom in 10."

X Factor judge Gary Barlow will sing with Sir Elton John during the 2013 series final, a newspaper report has claimed. Groups mentor Gary is expected to perform Face to Face, recorded by the duo for the Take That star's new album, with the 66-year-old pop legend – despite Elton previously saying that he found programmes like the ITV hit "boring".
Little Mix have stood up for 'X Factor' hopeful Tamera Foster , calling for people to "leave the girl alone", following damning allegations about her troubled past. Since 16-year-old Tamera first appeared on the ITV talent show, press reports have uncovered that she was held by security guards for stealing make-up from a branch of Boots a month after her first audition. Hand's up who thought Nicole Scherzinger may have necked a couple of glasses of wine before Saturday's X Factor? Her hair swinging, screaming and wild arm waving led to a flurry of tweets, accusing the star of having a cheeky tipple.
Sam Callahan is reported to have broken rules preventing contestants on The X Factor from selling their own merchandise. The hunky hopeful, who was recently reported to have been snogging rival...
The Scottish X Factor's star family were in tears when they heard he will be singing in front of the Tartan Army on November 15.
Life must be hard for this year's fittest X Factor fella Sam Callahan, mustn't it? Living in a swanky mansion, going to all the posh premieres - it sounds AWFUL. But at least now the poor blighter's getting some attention from the ladies, which must be quite nice.
Yup - Sam's admitted that he's a 'single pringle and ready to mingle' (how very Niall Horan), and his old man's been warning him he's gotta watch out for what girls actually want from him.
Chatting to Now magazine, Samuel Callafanusdown said: "There are girls I'd usually be scared of speaking to that sort of give you a little smile or a wink. Now all of a sudden I'm like: 'Hello!' But my dad's warned me to be careful what girls want me for. I'm going to keep to the sort of girls I've gone out with before."
By the look of things, babes, we reckon the majority of Callafans would settle for a retweet, follow, rendition of the Hokey Cokey or a peek at DEM ABS.
