Matt Cardle checks into rehab for prescription drugs addiction

X Factor winner Matt Cardle has checked into rehab after becoming addicted to prescription drugs, it has been revealed today.

The singer arrived at The Priory clinic yesterday evening, according to The Sun, to seek treatment for his addiction to temazepam and Valium.

Friends of the star have apparently said that he started taking the drugs to help with stress during the recording of his second album, which he released independently after splitting with his record label.

Allegedly he enrolled on the 28 day programme last night after becoming dependent on the pills, and realising that things were getting out of control.

 A friend said: “Matt is all over the place at the moment. His last two albums have done well in the charts, but the amount of work he has had to put in has been unreal - and it all started to get too much for him.
